Warning after man found sleeping in Amsterdam rubbish container

A homeless man has been found sleeping in an underground waste container in Amsterdam.
A neighbourhood police officer posted an image of the man’s makeshift home in Elandgracht, in the Jordaan district, on Instagram after discovering it a week ago.
The man had forced open a side panel to get into the container and cleared a space inside where he could sleep, the officer said.
The man appeared to be unaware of the potential danger of living in rubbish containers and protested when he was told to leave, she added: “If the bin lorry had emptied the container it could have been fatal.”

Last year a man in Arnhem died when he fell out of a street container while it was being emptied into a refuse truck. Police believe the man had been sleeping in the waste paper container at the time.
