VodafoneZiggo to cut 400 jobs as customer numbers fall

Telecommunications company VodafoneZiggo is cutting 400 jobs in a reorganisation after losing more than 40,000 customers in the first quarter of this year, news website Nu.nl has reported.
Efforts to retain existing clients and attract new ones do not appear to be working, and so the company has drawn up a new plan to respond to changing customer needs, Nu.nl said. This includes simplifying the organisational structure and moving staff into new roles.
Some 200 of the 400 job losses will be the result of voluntary departures, including retirements and the end of temporary contracts, a spokesman told the website.
VodafoneZiggo, which is part of LibertyGlobal, employs around 7,000 people. The Dutch company said last week that turnover had fallen 5.6% in the first three months of this year while net profit was down 10%.
