Spring 2025 is already the sunniest on record, with more to come

There have been a record 37 “very sunny” days so far this spring, making 2025 the sunniest spring on record, according to weather bureau Weeronline.
The previous record — 36 days with at least 80% sunshine — was set in 2020. With spring continuing until the end of May and more sunshine forecast, that record is likely to stretch even further, Weeronline said.
The record for total hours of sunshine, also set in 2020, is also expected to be broken before the end of the month.

The contrast with last year is stark. In 2024, there were just three “very sunny” days between March and the end of May, Weeronline said.
The coming days are expected to remain dry, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 20°, according to national weather service KNMI. The chance of rain increases to around 50% from next weekend.
