Six people were arrested in central Amsterdam during the Remembrance Day commemorations on the Dam, police confirmed on Monday.

Three were arrested for causing a disturbance while the Dutch national anthem was played, one of whom was seen on camera footage holding a Palestinian flag, according to news website Nu.nl.

A fourth person was arrested for failing to show identification, and two others were picked up for breaking a banning order and being drunk in public.

The organisers estimate that some 16,000 people packed into the city centre for the event, down from the 20,000 who normally attend. Last year, numbers were restricted because of security concerns.

Both the organisers and Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema said they were pleased at the way the ceremony had progressed. It was, said Halsema, “a moving and dignified commemoration, without any noteworthy incidents.”
