Claude finishes 12th in Eurovision despite early hopes

There was disappointment for the Netherlands in Saturday night’s Eurovision Song Contest, with Dutch entry Claude and his song C’est la Vie finishing in 12th place.
Claude had been one of the bookmakers’ favourites going into the final, but received just 42 votes from the public, causing him to drop from fifth to outside the top 10.
The competition was won by Austria, with JJ taking the title for his operatic ballad Wasted Love.
Claude told broadcaster NOS after the show that representing the Netherlands and taking part had probably been the most “awesome” thing he had done in his life.
“I’m so happy with everything I have done and I am so pleased for JJ,” he said. “I had so much love from everyone and well [commenting on the public vote], c’est la vie.”
