The temperature tipped 10° at the Bilt weather station near Hilversum on Wednesday, breaking the 2020 record for the most mild days in a single year.

In total, the temperature has hit 10° on 288 days this year, and that number is likely to increase before the end of December, according to weather bureau Weeronline. Last year there were 284 mild days.

All but one of the mild years making up the top 10 were this century, highlighting again the impact of climate change, Weeronline said.

The chilliest days were all in the last century – there were just 207 days of 10° plus in 1919, for example. The most recent chilly year was 1962.
