Hoekstra set to get EU’s climate and clean growth portfolio
Dutch nominee Wopke Hoekstra will have the climate and clean growth portfolio in the new look European Commission which is currently being finalised, sources have told broadcaster NOS.
Chairwoman Ursula von der Leyen is expected to announce who has which portfolio later on Tuesday.
Dutch prime minister Dick Schoof said earlier this summer he was hoping that the Netherlands would get a “strong position” and had been targeting an economic post, such as trade.
Hoekstra was first appointed to Brussels when Frans Timmermans left to return to domestic politics and took over some of his green portfolio.
He will represent the EU at the UN’s climate summit in Baku in November, the NOS reported.
