Ongoing gloomy weather prompts run on sunshine holidays
The continuing rain in the Netherlands has led to a run on last-minute summer holiday bookings, tour operators TUI, Sunweb and Corendon have told news website Nu.nl
TUI said its bookings last week were up 87% while Corendon reported the number of last-minute bookings had almost doubled. Sunweb said it had seen a 25% increase on last year.
Turkey, Spain and Greece are currently popular, despite the regional heatwaves, the travel firms said.
There is little change in the Dutch weather in the coming days, weather forecasters say. Friday will remain overcast with some drizzle and Saturday may have some sun, according to weather bureau KNMI.
But Sunday and the rest of the week remain wet and cloudy, with temperatures around 20° in the south and cooler in the north.
Towards the end of next week, heading towards the end of June, it could become a little warmer with more sunshine, the KNMI said.
