“Larger than Life” Dutch football anthem features the players

Star DJ Armin van Buuren, indie pop band Chef’Special and the players themselves feature on the Dutch team’s anthem for this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

Van Buuren and Chef’Special wrote Larger than Life and roped in the team to provide backing vocals for the first time since André Hazes’ 1988 belter Wij houden van Oranje. The song is completely in English.

“The track combines the unity, the ambition and the passion needed to win the Championship in Germany this summer” the KNVB football association said.

Parts of the track with the players were recorded during a writers’ camp held at the same time as the players’ training camp. In the video Virgil van Dijk can be seen leading the players in the vocals and claps accompanying the song.

“I really enjoyed working with the team,” Armin van Buuren said on a mini documentary about the making of the song. “Our track embodies the faith in making the dream come true. That cup is ours!” he said.

Oranje, in Group D together with Poland, France, and Austria, kick off their campaign against Poland on June 16 in Hamburg.
