The KNMI weather bureau has issued a code yellow weather warning for Monday afternoon, saying heavy storms will move over the country towards the east.

The storms will include thunder, hail and westerly winds of up to 100 kph and could pose a risk to cyclists, empty vans and lorries, and cars pulling a trailer or caravan.

The winds will die down inland in the evening, but could continue to affect coastal areas throughout the evening.

Tuesday too will be blustery with occasional spells of hail and heavy wind but by Wednesday the wind will have calmed somewhat. But there will be rain every day and the likelihood of sunshine improves towards the end of the week.

The temperature will also be sharply down on the weekend, at no higher than 12°.
