Norwegian rescue workers have resumed the search for a Dutch student who went missing during a hike in a mountainous area near Bodø in the north of the country on Wednesday.

The student, who is in his twenties but whose name had not been made public, was hiking in the mountains with two fellow students when the weather turned and they found themselves in thick fog. The Dutch student had gone ahead and then disappeared.

The other two students alerted the emergency services and were rescued but a large-scale search for the Dutch national had to be called off because of bad weather, Norwegian broadcaster NRK said.

Later on Thursday police said that although the search continues they are not holding out much hope that they will find the student alive. His relatives have been informed.
