Femke Bol cruised to the gold medal and a new world record in the 400 metres at the world indoor athletics championships in Glasgow on Saturday night.

Bol completed the distance in 49.17, just beating the record she set at the Dutch indoor championships two weeks ago. Lieke Klaver took silver in 50.16, completing a unique double for the Dutch.

Bol is also the current world outdoor 400 hurdles metre champion and was part of the Dutch team which won the 4×400 gold medal in Budapest last year. Both she and Klaver are competing in the 4×400 relay event on Sunday.

Bol is only the fifth Dutch athlete to have a world indoor title in her name.
