Beating Bayern puts Ajax women top in Champions League group

The Ajax women’s football team goes into the winter break top of Group C in the Champions League following a 1-0 home win against Bayern Munich.

Romée Leuchter scored the only goal of the match shortly before half time. Watch the highlights.

The Amsterdammers, who are playing their home matches in the Johan Cruijff stadium, now have seven points from four games. Paris Saint-Germain is in second place with six points, Bayern has five and AS Roma four.

Ajax will next meet Paris Saint-Germain away on January 24 and AS Roma at home on January 30. The top two from each of the four groups will progress to the quarter finals, which will be held in March.

The Ajax women’s team are first Dutch club to qualify for the group stage of the European club tournament. More money will also be directed towards Ajax women as a bonus for making it this far in the Champions League.
