The temperature tipped 25° in the Gelderland village of Hupsel on Monday, the first time so far this year that it has been warm enough to be classified as a “regional summer day”.

However, Tuesday will again be chillier, with temperatures in the high teens but as low as 12° on the Wadden Sea islands, weather forecasters say. It will remain dry with plenty of sunshine later in the day.

The temperatures will start to rise again later in the week and the Whitsun weekend, which includes a public holiday on Monday, will be sunny with temperatures in the low 20s.

According to the KNMI long-term forecast, there is an 80% chance the weather will remain warm and sunny well into June, with a 50% likelihood of temperatures above normal for the time of year.
