The state information service has published a new photo of king Willem-Alexander to mark his 56th birthday on April 27.

The portrait was taken last December in the Paleis Noordeinde in The Hague, where the king’s offices are based.

Meanwhile, prime minister Mark Rutte has said he is not worried about the declining popularity of the Dutch monarchy.

The fact that only 55% of the population say they have trust in the king is not a cause for concern, he told reporters. ‘Come on, I am on 20%,’ Rutte said at his weekly press conference.
