Workers and shoppers at an outlet of the ANWB motoring organisation in Zeist got the surprise of their lives on Monday when a car reversed at high speed through the glass frontage into the building.

Three people were hurt in the accident, one of whom is in serious condition. He was reportedly trapped between the car and a wall of the premises.

The driver, later revealed as a 91-year-old man, escaped without injury.

‘Staff member are shocked, the shop is in tatters. Our main concern now is to look after our staff. A number of colleagues from other ANWB shops immediately went to Zeist to help out,’ an ANWB spokesman told the AD

Police are now trying to find out how the accident happened.
