A massive mural in Tilburg has been voted the best piece of street art of 2022 by readers of the Street Art Cities website.

The work is on the wall of a recycling company on the Centaurusweg and features a woman in a dress made from plastic waste. It takes its name, Trashure, from a combination of the words trash and couture.

The work was devised by Niels van Swaemen and Kaspar van Leek, better known as Studio Giftig, who have focused on murals for the past 10 years.

‘We wanted to show that there is no such thing as rubbish,’ Van Leek told local broadcaster Omroep Brabant. ‘Every piece of waste can have a second life.’

Two works in Rotterdam, one in Lelystad and one in The Hague were also on the shortlist of 100 murals, as well as one on the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire.
