Dutch military support for Ukraine hits €800 million

The Netherlands has so far provided military support totalling €800 million to Ukraine, defence minister Kajsa Ollongren has told MPs during a debate on her ministry’s 2023 spending plans.

The Netherlands has supplied armoured howitzers, air defence systems, munitions, anti tank weapons and other equipment, but Ollongren said she did not want to give detailed information in parliament for strategic reasons.

Ukraine is gaining ground against the Russian army and that means all the support is having an impact, she said. ‘We must continue,’ the minister told MPs.

The minister said in August the government will not put a limit on how many weapons it supplies to Ukraine to end the Russian invasion.

The Netherlands has now given everything it could from current stocks and is ordering new weapons directly from manufacturers.  The €800 million also includes €100 million the Netherlands has given to an international fund to buy weapons for Ukraine.
