Police in Amstelveen have arrested more than 20 people after a fight broke out at a party centre in the Westwijk district, and spilled into nearby streets.

According to local news website Amstelveenz, trouble erupted between partygoers and security staff, who then called in the police. The rioters threw bricks and broken floor tiles at police and one man reportedly drove a car into a group of officers.

News website Nu.nl said the trouble was caused by a group of people who were refused admittance to the party.

Police dogs and a helicopter were brought in to help end the trouble which had moved to a nearby industrial estate by around 2.30 am.

Several metro stops were also vandalized. Local council official Herbert Raat described the trouble as a ‘scandal’. ‘The metro stop has been completely wrecked because a party got out of hand,’ he said. ‘Luckily there are enough cameras around to catch the perpetrators.’
