The first ground frost of the autumn was recorded at the Eelde weather station in Drenthe overnight, as the temperature fell to -1.8 Celsius. The temperature also dipped below zero in eastern parts of Gelderland, Buienradar weather maps show.

The low temperatures are down to an area of high pressure over the Netherlands, which has brought dry, sunny days with little wind. The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 18 Celsius on Wednesday but it will again be chilly overnight.

Thursday will be mainly dry, although some showers are possible and the likelihood of rain and cooler temperatures will increase during and after the weekend, weather forecasters say.
