Code yellow warning as hail, heavy showers and gusts forecast in south
Weather warnings have been issued for southern and eastern parts of the Netherlands as forecasters expect short, heavy local showers on Monday.
Temperatures remain high, with a maximum of 32C in Brabant and Limburg, while coastal regions will reach between 26C and 29C, according to Weeronline.nl.
The meteorological office KNMI has issued code yellow warnings for Zeeland, southern parts of Zuid-Holland province and the west of Noord-Brabant from 7pm until midnight on Monday.
The hot and humid conditions at night, with many places staying above 20C on Sunday, combined with a lack of wind are likely to produce heavy downpours across the south of the country.
The storms could also feature thunder, hail and gusts of up to 70 km/h, the KNMI warned. It advised people to take extra care on the roads, avoid open water and not take shelter under trees.
Temperatures are expected to remain high in the first half of the week, possibly touching 30C in some places on Tuesday, before more rain and thunderstorms arrive on Thursday. The weekend is set to be dry with more sunshine and temperatures of between 20C and 22C.
