A further two primary schools, in Arnhem, have closed temporarily after receiving a threatening email, local broadcaster Omroep Gelderland reports on Friday.

The threat comes as a school in Bilthoven closed its doors for the second day running after an email was sent threatening a school shooting.

It is not known what was said in the email to the Da Vinci and Ommelander schools in Arnhem-Zuid but a police spokesman said the schools were closed to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

In Bilthoven, the Nieuwe Lyceum school also decided to close ‘because of the atmosphere in the school’, director Philip Wind said in an email to parents. The school did not receive a threatening email.

Police are still investigating the origin of the emails and whether or not they are related.
