Travellers face long delays and lost suitcases if using Schiphol airport this summer because of a shortage of staff, the FNV trade union federation has warned.
The airport authority and service companies are unable to recruit enough workers and that means problems at security and with baggage handling, the union says.
FNV polled 252 Schiphol workers and found 85% did not think there were sufficient members of staff for peak periods, with 58% forecasting delays and 49% long queues.
‘Schiphol workers are under enormous pressure, leading to stress and absenteeism, and posing a danger to air travel,’ FNV campaign leader Joost van Doesburg said.
Last summer there were also problems at Schiphol because of a shortage of staff.
