In The Hague, Groep de Mos, the local party led by Richard de Mos remains the biggest party on the city council, adding support to win nine seats, with 95% of the votes counted. This is despite the threat of legal action hanging over De Mos, who has been accused of corruption.

Challenger D66 added two seats in The Hague to take eight on the 45 seat council. The VVD remain unchanged on 7, GroenLinks stay on five and the CDA on three.

The current council is a five party coalition of VVD, D66, GroenLinks, CDA and PvdA, but Groep De Mos, as the biggest party, will take the lead in trying to form a new coalition for the second time.

The PVV lost one of its two councillors while Forum voor Democratie is likely to win one seat – effectively splitting the far right vote.

Turnout in The Hague was just 42%, down six percentage points on four year ago.
