Train services are gradually resuming on Sunday following Friday’s storm, which led to no trains running at all on Friday and much of Saturday.

However, there are still problems on some routes and the restart of services is not without problems, an NS spokesman said. In particular, services between Amersfoort and Apeldoorn, Geldermalsen and Tiel, and Alkmaar and Hoorn have not yet resumed, the NS said on Sunday morning.

Travellers are being advised to check the online timetable before setting off on their journey.

The KNMI weather bureau said Sunday too will be extremely windy, with gusts of up to 90 kph in coastal regions during the day, possibly increasing to 110 kph in the evening.

On Monday too it will be stormy, with strong winds on the coast and inland, the KNMI said.

A code yellow weather warning remains in place for the entire country.
