Storm Dudley brought down trees and caused problems on the roads and railways overnight and more wind is on the way, weather forecasters say.

In Duiven, near Arnhem, a police officer was taken to hospital after being hit by part of a roof that was blown off an office building.

Two people had to be freed from their car after a tree was brought down in Maassluis, in Zuid-Holland province. They were taken to hospital but are not thought to be seriously injured.

Among the problems for commuters: fewer intercity train services are operating between Zaandam and Alkmaar and there were delays on the A12, heading for The Hague, for a time because of a fallen tree.

The wind will die down on Thursday but will be back again on Friday afternoon when storm Eunice moves in from the south west, weather bureau KNMI said.

Storm Eunice is expected to be the worst storm of the year so far, with winds of up to 120 kph in coastal areas.
