Kjeld Nuis has prolonged his Olympic title in the men’s 1500 metres speed skating, taking the gold medal just 0.34 seconds ahead of arch rival and fellow Dutchman Thomas Krol, the reigning world champion.

The bronze went to Kim Minseok of Korea.

Nuis, 32, had a difficult start to the season but took the European title in Heerenveen last month. Krol was also second in that race.

On Wednesday, all eyes will again be on the short track rink, where the men’s 1,500 metre final and the women’s 3000 metre relay take place.
