Inflation reaches 7.6% in January, according to EU calculations
Inflation reached 7.6% in January when calculated according to EU methods, national statistics office CBS has told broadcaster NOS.
In December the figure was 6.4% and has been driven upwards by rising energy and food prices. Calculated according to the Dutch method, the December inflation figure was 5.7%.
The main difference between the two systems is the role of housing. The European system for calculating inflation, or HICP, does not include housing costs, but the CPI, or Dutch system, includes developments on the rental housing market.
In December, the Netherlands had the sixth highest inflation rate in the eurozone. In neighbouring Belgium, the figure was 6.5%, in Germany 5.7%.
European statistics agency Eurostat will publish preliminary figures for January later on Wednesday.
