The rich Dutch have become richer over the past year and 45 people now have over a billion euros in assets, according to the 25th edition of the Quote 500 rich list.

Heineken heiress Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken remains top of the list with an estimated €13.5bn in assets but there is a new number two – property magnate Remon Vos, worth an estimated €5.7bn.

CTP-owner Vos, who made his money setting up business estates in eastern Europe, has dethroned Frits Goldschmeding, founder of the staffing agency Randstad, who is now in third place.

In total, the richest 500 people in the Netherlands have combined assets of €219.6bn, the business magazine said.

The tipping point for being included on the list has also risen to €110m, compared with €95m last year, Quote said.

The top three of the richest family list is made up of the Brenninkmeijers, the name behind C&A, the Van der Vorms, who grew rich with maritime investments and the optician’s chain GrandVision, and the De Rijcke’s of the Kruidvat retail group fame.
