One in eight deaths in 2020 attributed to coronavirus

One in eight deaths in 2020 was caused by the coronavirus, according to the Dutch statistics office.
A total of 168,678 Dutch residents died last year, around 20,000 of them from Covid-19, reports the CBS.
The total death rate was around 16,800 higher than in 2019.
Cancer and other tumours were still the largest cause, representing almost 28% of deaths, and then heart and vascular conditions.
Unnatural deaths rose slightly, with more accidental falls. Just over 10 deaths in every 100,000 are a result of suicide.
When the CBS compared suicides from 1950 to 2020, it also found that older people and especially men were vulnerable.
