Coronavirus infections are continuing to creep upwards, with another 2,651 cases reported on Thursday by the public health agency RIVM.

The figure was 193 lower than on Wednesday but represents a 6.6% increase from last Thursday’s figure. The average has risen steadily from 2,300 on August 15 to just under 2,500.

In the last seven days 14.2% of all tests were positive, in line with the trend of recent weeks.

The number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 decreased by 16 to 658 in the last 24 hours, while there are currently 218 people being treated in intensive care, 10 fewer than on Wednesday.

The RIVM recorded an average of seven deaths from coronavirus infections in the last week, compared to six a week ago. The number of nursing homes with at least one infection in the last two weeks has declined from 166 to 145 since last Thursday.
