A total of 3,402 new coronavirus infections were reported to public health institute RIVM in the 24 hours to Thursday morning.

This is up 587 on Wednesday and more than the average over the past seven days, which has fallen to 2,705. The number of infections in the past week are down 40% on the week earlier period.

Wednesday and Thursday’s infection total tends to be higher than the rest of the week because of the weekend time lag. Computer failures earlier in the week may also have had an impact on the results.

There has also been a slight increase in the number of people being treated in hospital. In total, 673 are now in hospital with coronavirus, of whom 199 are in intensive care, according to national patient monitor LCPS.
