The clear skies and lack of moon early on Friday morning provided perfect conditions in parts of the country for spotting shooting stars as the Perseids meteor shower returned.

But while Friday and Saturday will be sunny and warm, the return to seasonal temperatures will be short lived, with some rain again next week, the KNMI weather bureau said.

Temperatures on Friday and Saturday will rise to 25 Celsius in the east and south, but will be no higher than 20 Celsius on the coast.

By Sunday the rain will be back, although the showers will be light. Monday will have heavier rain and the temperature will drop to no more than 20 Celsius.

The KNMI sees little change towards the end of the week, with showers and sunny spells. The long term forecast towards the end of August is for mainly dry weather with temperatures slightly below average for the time of year.
