House prices rose 14.6% in June, compared with the year earlier period, the biggest increase since December 2000, national statistics agency CBS said on Thursday.

The CBS figure, compiled on the basis of land registry information, is the second to indicate a further sharp rise in house prices.

Estate agents organisation NVM said earlier this month that the average price paid for a home via its members hit €410,000 in the second quarter, a rise of almost 20% on 2020 and the biggest increase since it began monitoring the figures in 1985.

House prices have been rising steadily since June 2013 when they hit a low during the financial crisis and are now 70% above that figure, the CBS said.  Just over 17,700 homes changed hands in June, the same as in 2020.

The CBS has also published an analysis of regional differences which show Flevoland had the biggest increase – 16.8% – in the second quarter, while Limburg had the lowest at 11.7%.

Of the four biggest cities, house prices rose the most, 14%, in Utrecht, while in Amsterdam house prices were up 7.5%.
