Weather conditions good to view Thursday’s partial eclipse of the sun

June 9, 2021

A partial eclipse of the sun will be visible in the Netherlands on Thursday morning, as the moon crosses into the Earth’s elliptical orbit.

In the Netherlands, it will appear as if a large chunk has been bitten out of the top sun, but in Canada and North America it will appear as the more spectacular ‘ring of fire’ –  a bright ring surrounding the new moon silhouette.

In the Netherlands, the partial eclipse will start around 11.20am and will be at its peak an hour later.

The weather will be good for catching the eclipse. The KNMI weather bureau says the weather will be clear and sunny, after a misty start in some places.
