Sunshine and summer temperatures expected to last all week

Summer days are expected to return this week with long sunny spells and temperatures in the mid to high twenties for most of the country.

The first four days of June all qualified as summer’s days by passing the KNMI’s threshold of 25C at its headquarters at De Bilt, but heavy cloud and showers took over at the weekend.

Some parts of Brabant were hit by flash flooding on Saturday, which closed the Elisabethtunnel in Eindhoven and left roads under bridges inundated.

Weather bureau Weeronline said most parts of the country would enjoy sunshine on Monday, as the cloud cover in the east moves into Germany. Maximum temperatures will range from 18C on the Wadden islands to 24C in the south-east.

On Tuesday the thermometer could reach 25C in the south and 21C on the west coast, but with little wind, making the air feel warmer.

The weather is set to remain stable for the rest of the week, though there is a small chance of showers or local storms on Thursday, Weeronline said.
