Number of coronavirus patients in intensive care falls below 400

The number of coronavirus patients in intensive care has fallen below 400 for the first time since October 18, latest figures show.

According to the RIVM’s daily update for Thursday there are currently 394 people receiving intensive care treatment for Covid-19, 26 fewer than on Wednesday. In the last week an average of 14 patients have been transferred to the ICU every day.

The total number of patients in hospital fell by 91 to 1,089, while the RIVM reported 14 more deaths on Thursday, above the weekly average of nine.

Another 2,803 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, just below the seven-day average figure of 2,822. In the last week the number of confirmed cases has declined by 11%, while 8.7% of all tests were positive.

The number of care homes reporting a new coronavirus infection in the last 14 days has also fallen in the last week from 104 to 80.
