MPs say coronavirus test centre at Schiphol should open again
MPs are calling on the government to establish a coronavirus testing centre at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport in an effort to keep the Delta variant of the disease at bay.
The Delta version has been identified in a number of youngsters returning from holiday in Portugal and a free testing centre at the airport would help identify more cases, three of the biggest parties in parliament say.
The centre should be manned 24 hours a day and should also offer vaccinations to people who have not yet been jabbed. ‘Test, jab and go,’ D66 MP Jan Paternotte said.
Other MPs have suggested that everyone arriving from a yellow zone should have to have a test on arrival, excluding people who have been fully vaccinated and have a digital test certificate.
A test centre did operate at the airport for a few months, but it was closed because of a lack of capacity.
