A total of 4,520 new coronavirus cases were reported to public health institute RIVM in the 24 hours to Saturday morning.

This is down 1,054, or 22%, on Friday’s total. Over the past seven days, an average of 5,794 cases per day were reported to the RIVM, a drop of 21% on a week ago.

The figure may not include all tests carried out at commercial test centres, however. Nor is it clear if fewer tests were taken because of the Ascension Day public holiday on Thursday, which could explain the sharp reduction.

Fewer people are also being treated in hospital and in intensive care. In total, 2,183 people are now in hospital with coronavirus, of whom 710 are in an IC ward.

The government has said hospital admissions must be down 20% by Monday for the relaxation of the coronavirus rules introduced last week to go into effect.

All the figures can be found on the government’s coronavirus dashboard.
