Strike action disrupts train travel this week, no trains on May 1

April 28, 2021

Train traffic around Utrecht, Amersfoort, Amsterdam and Alkmaar was disrupted on Wednesday morning on the first day of regional strike action by ProRail traffic controllers.

Trains remained at a standstill between 6am and 8am but regular service will not be resumed until around 10am. Services in other regions may also be affected.

The FNV Spoor union, which organised the strike, is demanding a 2.8% pay rise, a shorter collective labour agreement and a wider application of the early retirement scheme. The CNV and VHS railway unions have already agreed to the ProRail offer.

Thursday’s strike will affect The Hague, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Roosendaal. On Friday train traffic will be disrupted in Eindhoven, Maastricht, Arnhem, Zwolle and Groningen.

On Saturday May 1, FNV Spoor has called a national strike of traffic controllers starting at 5am. It is likely that all services that day will be cancelled.

Dutch Rail is advising travellers to consult their website for up to date travel information.
