Dutch football clubs have had fewer home wins since supporters were banned from their stadiums because of coronavirus, according to figures from sports data bureau Gracenote.

Supporters were banned from the end of September, and since then 39% of Eredivisie games have ended in a win for the home team, Nu.nl reported on Friday.  Over the previous four years, 48% of games with supporters were won by the hosts.

The change was more modest in terms of away victories – with 30% of away games resulting in a win with supporters, and 35% without.

Home teams also scored fewer goals on average without fans, and picked up fewer yellow cards.

The survey also shows that ADO Den Haag was the worst performer without fans – and has not won a single home game in seven months.  FC Twente managed just one home win.

PSV Eindhoven appeared to miss its supporters least of all – winning 32 points at the Philips stadium without fans. League leader Ajax won 31 points at home this season so far.

This weekend Eredivisie clubs are allowed to fill their stadiums to 15% capacity as part of one of the government-backed Fieldlabs experiments. Supporters will have to have a negative test result to attend.

In total, 7,500 supporters will be able to watch Ajax take on AZ on Saturday at home, and possibly clinch the league title. PSV and AZ are battling it out for second place, and PSV meet FC Groningen at home on Saturday.
