All hamburgers on deck as submarine crew enjoy offshore barbecue
The crew of a Dutch submarine made waves as they tucked into an Easter barbecue off the English coast.
The Zr. Ms. Dolfijn, a Walrus class submarine, surfaced off St Mount’s Bay on Saturday evening and treated villagers in Mousehole to the sight of the crew cooking on deck as dolphins swam alongside.
Locals said the submarines were a frequent sight in their waters, which are ideal for shallow-water training for the 68-metre long vessels, but a barbecue on board was unprecedented.

One website, Cornwall Live, cheekily suggested the Dutch were on the lookout for coronavirus vaccines, referring to the relatively slow vaccination rate in the Netherlands. The Dutch Navy would not confirm why the Dolfijn was in the area because of official secrecy concerning submarines.
The submarine was in the news a year ago when 58 crew members tested positive for coronavirus during a training exercise near Faslane naval base in Scotland.
