More than 2,000 Covid patients in hospital as cases rise
More than 2,000 coronavirus patients are in hospital for the first time in five weeks as the rise in cases continues.
A total of 2,019 people are being treated, 97 more than on Sunday, according to the latest daily update by the public health agency RIVM. The number of intensive care patients with Covid-19 has increased by 10 to 564.
Another 5,549 infections were reported in the last 24 hours, roughly in line with the average for the last seven days. The seven-day average has increased from around 4,500 to 5,500 in the past week.
The number of deaths is continuing to decline, with 18 more people confirmed to have died on Monday and 33 on average in the past week.
The virus is also continuing to decline in nursing homes, with 306 locations reporting at least one infection in the past two weeks. A week ago that figure was 327.
