Corona cases continue to rise, dip in hospital numbers
Nearly 6,000 more coronavirus cases were recorded on Wednesday, maintaining the 25% week-on-week increase of the last week.
According to the public health agency RIVM’s latest update, another 5,974 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, while the seven-day average rose to around 5,700. A week ago the average figure was just over 4,500.
However, the number of patients in hospital dropped by 45 to 1,992, while 568 people are being treated in intensive care, 18 fewer than on Tuesday.
The positive test rate has levelled off in recent days and stands at 7.6%.
Another 47 deaths were recorded, taking the total to 16,165. On average 31 deaths a day have been recorded in the last seven days, compared to 36 a week ago.
