5,000 football fans will be welcome to watch World Cup qualifier, live
Five thousand supporters will be allowed into the Johan Cruijff stadium in Amsterdam on March 27 to watch the Netherlands take on Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.
The plan is the latest in a string of experiments to assess how large events can be organized during the pandemic.
There have been two other government-backed experiments involving football matches so far, both of which were first division games and involved a crowd of around 1,300 fans.
Like the other experiments, the World Cup crowd will be divided into six bubbles with different instructions. Some groups will be allowed to sit close together, others will be able to cheer or order drinks and food.
One person tested positive for coronavirus after the first football match, between NEC-De Graafschap but there were no positive tests after the Almere City-SC Cambuur match last month.
Other FieldLab experiments have involved a conference, concert and dance event.
