Police are trying to trace the family of a seriously disabled man who was left in a wheelchair near a fire station in Rijswijk in freezing temperatures last Tuesday night.

The man, thought to be around 20, was taken to hospital with hypothermia. He was found by a passerby who alerted the emergency services.

The man cannot speak but was carrying a note which stated his mother was unable to care for him, and his family is homeless, which is why he was being abandoned, police said.

Police are now trying to find out how the man was dumped and who by. ‘We’d like to speak to them so we can get them some help from social services,’ a police spokesman said.
