Luna and Max are once again the most popular names for dogs, according to the annual list compiled by a major pet insurance company.

Dogs have become an increasingly popular pet this year thanks to coronavirus but Max and Luna remain top of the list of names, insurance company Petplan said.

Bobbie/Bobby, Bella and Pip are old favourites completing the top five, but places five to 10 have all been taken by newcomers – Buddy, Charlie, Joep, Ollie and Nala.

‘We hope the new owners have really thought about how they are going to take care of their dog once the coronavirus pandemic is over,’ spokeswoman Marelie Sweep said. ‘You are responsible for a pet for life, not just during a period of quarantine.’
