Public health institute RIVM has received 5,725 notifications of new coronavirus infections in the 24 hours to Thursday morning, but the figure has been distorted by computer problems on Wednesday.

Thursday’s total is up 1,103 on Wednesday’s figure, but some of the cases – around 1,000 – were recorded earlier and not included in the register on time because of the IT failings, the RIVM said.

Meanwhile, a further 224 people have been admitted to hospital and 37 patients have been placed in intensive care wards. Both figures are up on Wednesday’s total. Nevertheless, the overall trend remains downward.

There are currently 2,030 people being treated for coronavirus in hospital, down 53 on Thursday, of whom 555 are in IC.
