People in the Netherlands with ethnic minority roots are advancing in terms of jobs and education, national statistics office CBS said on Wednesday, in the latest edition of its integration monitor.

The monitor shows people from more recent EU member states, such as Poland and Romania, are actually more likely to have a job than the native white Dutch, while the gap between the Dutch immigrants from Suriname, the Antilles, Morocco and Turkey is closing.

‘The labour market participation of people with Turkish, Moroccan, Surinamese and Antillean migrant backgrounds grew relatively strongly from 20015 to 2019,’ the CBS said. ‘This group was hard hit during the previous economic crisis but their participation in the jobs market has grown more strongly than people with a Dutch background.

The children of immigrants are also more likely to go to college and university, the figures show than they were 10 years ago.
