People appear to be happier based from home, according to a survey of 646 employees and job seekers.

Back in April, 47% of them said they were dying to get back to the office, but by October, this had shrunk to 32%. Meanwhile, now 68% are happy to continue working from home, while in April this was just over half.

The most important reasons for their relative happiness with the home office was travel: almost four in five said they enjoyed having no commute to work, and people said that they can divvy up their time better (64%).

Contrary to the experience of those with screaming children, constant interruptions and only a laundry cupboard to work in, 37% of people surveyed said that they could concentrate better at home.

The reasons to go back to work were mainly social, however. Almost two-thirds of people were missing their colleagues by October, many missed the change of scene and 41% agreed that they could focus more at their official place of work.

But around six in 10 people thought that their employer would give more flexibility for home working in future.

The latest part of the survey was conducted in mid-October by survey group Motivaction for the Nationale Vacaturebank and Intermediair websites.
